The most crucial step is keeping the foam constantly wet. If the floral foam dries out, it becomes tough to rehydrate, and the fresh flowers and greens will quickly wilt.

• Check Daily: Feel the floral foam, or the weight of the arrangement, every day. It should always feel damp and heavy.

• How to Water: Carefully pour cool, fresh water directly onto the exposed parts of the green floral foam.

  • Use a small-spouted watering can or a small measuring cup to make the job easier and avoid spilling.

  • Slowly pour the water into the foam, letting it absorb gradually.

  • Focus on the center and any areas where the foam is visible. You may need to gently part some of the flowers or greens to access the foam directly.

• How Much Water: Start by adding about half a cup of water and wait a few minutes for it to soak in. If the foam still feels dry or you can add more without the water spilling over the edge of the container, add a little more.

• Use Flower Food (Optional): If your florist provided a packet of flower food, mix it with the water before adding it to the arrangement. This provides nutrients and helps inhibit bacterial growth.
